The Matchless Mine, which was in operation from about 1903 to 1927, was one of the important coal mines of the Louisville area. Its mining tunnels even extended underneath Harper Lake. Museum Coordinator Bridget Bacon will give this program on the history of the Matchless Mine and its significance for Louisville, and will lead participants to where the Matchless Mine shaft was located. This program will involve about 1 mile of walking so please wear comfortable walking shoes and be prepared for the elements (bring sunscreen, water hat, sunglasses).
