Memory Square outdoor pool will not open for the 2020 season

Post Date:05/20/2020 1:08 PM

The City of Louisville will not open Memory Square outdoor pool for the 2020 season due to public safety concerns related to COVID-19.

Boulder County Public Health guidance around outdoor facilities during "Safer at Home" states that outdoor pools should remain closed.  If outdoor pools are allowed to open in upcoming phases, CDC and Boulder County guidelines will make it difficult, or impossible, to follow social-distancing, group limits, and safety recommendations.

In addition to the public health considerations associated with the reopening, the City also considered the financial and resource impacts of operating the pool with limited attendance.

"This has been a tough decision," states Recreation & Senior Center, Superintendent Kathy Martin. "We know how much the Louisville Community loves this amenity, and it is a big part of summer for all of us. We reviewed many different scenarios in hopes that we could open in 2020. Ultimately it came down the safety of our staff and patrons as well as the allocation of City resources".

The indoor pools at the Recreation Center will continue to be discussed as a part of the overall Recreation Center reopening plan and with updated public health guidance.
