City of Louisville Celebrates New Trees Thanks to Generous Donation

Post Date:07/19/2024 9:27 AM

The City of Louisville, thanks to the generous support of PepsiCo Positive, the CU Buffs "Trees for Threes Program," and the PLAY Boulder Foundation, is excited to announce a ribbon cutting on Tuesday, July 23 at 11 a.m. to celebrate the planting of 12 new trees at the Louisville Sports Complex. Chip, the University of Colorado's mascot, and the CU Buffs Women’s Basketball team will be present to mark the occasion. The community is invited to join in the festivities.

The "Trees for Threes Program" turns every 3-point shot made by CU Buffs basketball teams into a tree, funded by PepsiCo. This is the second year of the program, and this year, the City of Louisville was chosen to receive $6,000 to support urban tree canopies.

"We are thrilled to have the City of Louisville as the recipient of the 2024 funds from 'Trees for Threes Program'," said Angie Jeffords, Executive Director of the PLAY Boulder Foundation. "The planting of these trees not only supports urban forestry but also enhances the beauty of a local athletic facility and supports the community's continuing recovery efforts from the Marshall Fire."

Additionally, the City of Louisville joins the City of Boulder, Boulder County, and other partners in launching the Community Forestry Corps (CFC), led by the PLAY Boulder Foundation. This program engages youth from underserved communities in planting and caring for trees and collecting heat data to combat climate change.
"We are incredibly grateful for the funds to plant these new trees and for the opportunity to be a part of the Community Forestry Corps," said Abby McNeal, Parks Superintendent for the City of Louisville. "This program will not only beautify our spaces but also empower our youth with valuable skills and knowledge in environmental stewardship."
