Since 1985, the Historical Museum Advisory Board has awarded the Pioneer Award to an individual or individuals in recognition of past achievements in promoting the interests and future of the City of Louisville through personal service to the community and its residents. This year's award recipient is Memory Delforge.
Memory was born, raised, and still lives in Louisville. She has been an active volunteer in the community for many decades at the library, hospital, nursing homes, and with the Society of Italian Americans. Memory brought delight to children with her dog, Sydney, at the library’s Read to Rover program and therapy to folks in nursing homes and hospitals. On behalf of the Society of Italian Americans, she arranged fruit baskets, which she personally delivered to families who had lost a loved one.
Most notably, Memory has been a long-time volunteer and supporter of the Louisville Historical Museum where she brought Louisville history to life with her tours, delighting visitors with personal stories and memories of growing up in Louisville. She is a wonderful resource for the Museum staff and the community, with her knowledge of Louisville and enthusiasm for its history. Memory was also primarily responsible for reviving the 100-year-old Louisville tradition of handing out Holiday Treat Bags in December to children. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Museum created take home crafts so Louisville families could continue to experience history from their own homes. Memory volunteered and prepared over 2,000 of these craft kits to brighten the days of children in Louisville.
Anyone who meets Memory is quick to see the love, joy, and time that she has given to Louisville and the people in it. Congratulations, Memory!
