Phase 2 of the Median Landscape Renovation Project begins July 7

Post Date:07/02/2025 8:25 PM

Phase 2 of the Median Landscape Renovation Project begins July 7 on Dillon Rd. Drivers should plan for single lane closures in both directions through mid-August.

After completing Phase 1 in 2023, we received feedback about sight lines, plant height, and overall aesthetics. With guidance from City Council, horticultural staff, and the Parks & Public Landscaping Advisory Board (PPLAB), we’ve made thoughtful adjustments—and we’re excited to put them into action.

Phase 1 helped us meet important goals like reducing water use, removing declining ash trees, and replacing high-water turf with more sustainable, pollinator-friendly landscaping. Phase 2 continues that work with a refined approach based on what we learned.

What’s coming in Phase 2:

• Lower plant heights and more strategic rock wall locations to maintain visibility

• A new grass seed mix that is still drought-tolerant and pollinator friendly while incorporating a lower grow height

• Easier-to-maintain layouts and upgraded irrigation infrastructure

• A consistent aesthetic across key city corridors

Phase 2 will focus on the Dillon Road corridor, Via Appia at McCaslin, and portions of the McCaslin corridor, as budget allows. The work is anticipated to be completed in fall of 2025.

We’re committed to continuous improvement. These updates aim to create medians that are sustainable, easier to maintain, and meet the needs of our community and environment.
