Free street parking is readily available. There is also a small free City parking lot accessible from the alley behind the Museum. One space there is designated as a handicap parking space.

Museum staff are happy to provide virtual tours and in-person tours for groups of 6 or more people. Virtual tours are led by Museum staff via Zoom or Google Meets.
It is best to schedule at least two weeks in advance so that we can best accommodate your group and provide enough staffing. We welcome school groups, scouts, senior centers, and groups with special needs.

Schedule a Museum Visit - Special Tour Request 

Tours are scheduled Tuesday - Saturday. The Museum is closed on Sunday and Monday.

Visitors of all ages are welcome at the Museum! Please call ahead if you have questions about accommodations and activities suitable for your child.

Strollers

The Museum campus and buildings are accessible with ramps for stroller and wheelchair access. However, the historic buildings and doorways are narrow and may not fit all electric wheelchairs or double strollers.

Stroller Parking

Strollers can be parked outdoors by the backdoor of the Museum's main building (the Jacoe Store).

Restrooms

There is a single, gender neutral bathroom in the Jacoe Store. It is not ADA accessible and does not have a changing table.

Bottle and Breastfeeding

You are welcome to bottle or breastfeed your child at the Museum. The Museum does not have a designated lactation room but we will do our best to accommodate your privacy while nursing.

Snacks and Eating

Food is not allowed in the Museum buildings, but snacks and drinks can be enjoyed outdoors in the Museum Courtyard. Trash bins are located across the street and in the Museum parking lot. There are also many family-friendly restaurants located in the surrounding blocks.

 

 

We try our best to accommodate all visitors. Please call ahead of your visit if you have questions about physical accessibility or accommodations for ASL interpretation, blindness/ low vision, sensory, and developmental disabilities. The Museum has a sensory kit available upon request for use during your visit with sound-dampening headphones, fidget tools, a textured seat, and weighted lap pad.

You can download a Social Story PDF to prepare for your visit. A Social Story is a written and visual guide that can be helpful for families with children with autism and sensory processing differences, first-time visitors, or others who prefer to prepare in advance for unknown situations.

All three small historic buildings on the Museum campus and the Museum courtyard have ramps to the entrances but are not otherwise ADA accessible.

There is a single, gender neutral restroom in the Jacoe Store which is not ADA accessible and does not have a changing table.

The Museum does not have a venue for food or drink on site, however, there are many restaurants and dining options within a few blocks of the museum.   

Water in bottles or closed containers is allowed in the Museum buildings.

Snacks and drinks can be enjoyed outdoors in the Museum Courtyard. Trash bins are located across the street or behind the Museum in the parking lot.

Out of consideration for the preservation of the Museum’s historical artifacts and small historical buildings, we ask that you refrain from eating or drinking inside the buildings during your visit.

Please refrain from bringing animals, other than service dogs, into the historical buildings.

Photography Policy

Images taken during activities sponsored by the Louisville Historical Museum may be used in our promotional and instructional materials. Please notify museum staff if you do not wish to have your image used.

Photo and Video Permission

Visitors are welcome to take personal photos during their visit. We ask that you not take photos of historic photos on exhibit. Professionals and amateurs may take exterior photos on the Museum campus without paying fees.
