The primary role of the Historical Commission is to act as an advisory board to the Louisville City Council on matters relating to the Louisville Historical Museum and Louisville history.The Commission has ten members, each appointed by the City Council to a four-year term. Each year, the Louisville Historical Commission selects a new recipient of the Louisville Pioneer Award. The recipient is a person or persons or an organization who, through business and personal activities, is recognized within the Louisville community as an active or previously active contributor to the ongoing or past successes and welfare of the community.
