Volunteering for the City of Louisville at the Louisville Historical Museum is a great way to support the efforts of the Museum to collect, preserve, and share the history of Louisville. At this time, the Museum’s greatest needs are for:
- Visitor Services Volunteers
- Oral History Program volunteers
Visitor Services Volunteer
Our Visitor Services Volunteers help staff the Museum during the open hours by greeting visitors, chatting with them about Louisville history, and giving tours of the three buildings. The Museum staff may ask for help with other projects during the public hours as well. Volunteers typically volunteer two or three hours a week, or two or three hours a month. An orientation and training are provided. A minimum commitment of one year is requested.
Oral History Volunteer
The Oral History Volunteers meet as a group monthly on the third Thursday of the month from 4:00 to 5:00 PM. Some volunteers contact potential narrators and conduct the interviews, while other volunteers film the interviews. An orientation and training are provided.
If you are interested in volunteering, please send an email to the Museum Coordinator, who will schedule a meeting with you in order to talk about your area of interest. Prospective volunteers will be asked to complete a City of Louisville volunteer application.
