 Why It Matters

Together, buildings and transportation together account for the vast majority of Louisville’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. From heating systems and appliances to vehicles and street design, the way we power and move through our city shapes our climate footprint, and our daily lives.

Improving how we build, renovate, and travel is key to cutting GHG emissions, improving our air quality, reducing utility bills and fuel costs, and making Louisville more livable for everyone.

 What We’re Doing

We’re taking a people-first approach to electrification, walkability, and energy efficiency by upgrading both our built environment and transportation systems.

Key initiatives include:

  • Partnering with utilities and other regional organizations to offer residences affordable electrification options.

  • Powering our municipal buildings with electricity that comes from 100% clean energy.

  • Expanding electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure and access to public transit.

  • Designing streets that are safe, interconnected, and attractive for all types of transport and movement.
