Why It Matters
Our transportation vision goes far beyond cleaner vehicles. We’re building a livable, walkable Louisville designed around people. By putting people first in how we plan our streets, connect neighborhoods, and move through our community, we can create a healthier, more vibrant Louisville for everyone.
Benefits of a Connected Community:
- Kids can walk or bike to school more safely
- Seniors enjoy reliable, accessible transportation options
- Neighbors connect more often and support local businesses
- Streets double as green, active public spaces, rather than just corridors for cars
- Fewer car trips leads to cleaner air and less noise
- Biking and walking reduce traffic congestion
What We're Doing
We’re making it safer and easier to walk, bike, and roll across Louisville.
Louisville's key milestones include:
- Replacement of 1,100 decorative streetlights with dark-sky compliant LEDs to reduce light pollution.
- 32 miles of connected bicycle trails throughout the city.
- Downtown Louisville earned a Walk Score of 82, making it one of the most walkable areas in the region.
Get Involved
- Walk or bike more: Choose active trips for short distances to reduce traffic and GHG emissions.
- Ride transit: Take the bus when you can to cut single-occupancy car trips.
- Volunteer: Support local bike groups, walking groups, or other transportation initiatives and connect with your neighbors!
