 Why It Matters

Our climate and energy systems are deeply interconnected and central to Louisville’s future. Burning fossil fuels for electricity, heating, and transportation is the leading cause of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. GHG emissions drive climate change and affect everything from our air quality to our water supply.

Shifting to clean, efficient energy solutions helps protect our health, lower costs, and make Louisville a more resilient community in the face of climate extremes.

 What We’re Doing

Louisville is committed to reducing GHG emissions and expanding access to clean, renewable power at the community, municipal, and commercial levels.

Key initiatives include:

  • Setting science-based targets for reducing emissions city-wide.

  • Partnering with utilities, businesses, and regional organizations to provide Louisville residents with access to renewable energy and energy efficiency options.

  • Electrifying municipal buildings to set an example of positive change.
