Why It Matters
Energy efficiency is one of the best ways you can cut your greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and save money. If we reduce the amount of energy we waste in our buildings, we can lower our operating costs, improve comfort in public and private spaces, and meet our climate goals faster.
What We're Doing
Louisville is improving efficiency in municipal buildings to save energy and reduce emissions. Current projects include:
- Energy audits: Completed ASHRAE Level 1 audits in 2021 at the Recreation and Senior Center, Library, Police and Court, City Services, and City Hall.
- Facility upgrades: Invested $600,000 in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), lighting, and control system improvements across municipal facilities.
- Strategic Energy Management (SEM): Currently participating in Xcel Energy’s SEM program to achieve ongoing energy and cost savings.
