Why It Matters
Understanding the plants, insects, and wildlife that live in Louisville is key or for to make informed decisions about habitat management.
Ongoing data collection and monitoring helps us track changes in biodiversity, identify emerging challenges, and measure the success of our conservation efforts. These scientifically-based insights ensure that our open spaces remain resilient for the long term.
What We're Doing
Open Space BioBlitz
Each summer, Louisville partners with the Colorado Natural Heritage Program (CNHP) at Colorado State University (CSU) to host a weeklong BioBlitz. During this event, scientists, volunteers, and community members come together to document as many species as possible across our open spaces.
This data provides us with a clearer picture of Louisville’s biodiversity and guides our future conservation efforts.
Avian Survey Collections
Bird populations can be a key indicator of ecosystem health. Over the past decade, we've contracted with Wildlife Specialties LLC to conduct six avian surveys. These surveys help us understand how bird species are using open spaces and allows us to identify opportunities that enhance bird habitats across the community.
