Why It Matters

Trees are one of our most powerful tools in building a healthy, resilient community. They do far more than beautify our streets and parks. Trees improve our air quality, cool neighborhoods, absorb carbon, reduce energy use, manage stormwater, support wildlife, and boost our overall well-being.

A strong urban canopy is essential to meeting our environmental and human wellbeing goals.

 What We're Doing

We're already working to maximize the ecological and biological diversity of our tree canopy for the enjoyment of all present and future generations.

Louisville Forestry Division

Louisville's Forestry Division cares for approximately 10,000 trees throughout the City. The goal of the program is to create a healthy and diverse forest through sustainable management practices. We offer multiple services to residents and businesses alike. Click here to explore some of the Division’s programming.

Louisville Arboretum

With a focus on conservation and education, the Louisville Arboretum is a serene outdoor space dedicated to showcasing a diverse collection of trees and plants, providing a place for you to learn about different species.

 Get Involved

Our tree canopy depends on your support. Whether you're planting a tree in your yard or helping care for our public spaces, your involvement helps us grow a healthier, more climate-resilient city. Here two easy ways to get involved:
