Why It Matters
Water is a precious natural resource in Colorado. Water is essential to our health, local economy, environment, and way of life. Our drinking water comes from South Boulder Creek and the Colorado and Fraser Rivers. It gets treated at two local plants with a combined capacity of up to 13 million gallons per day.
As drought conditions continue to intensify across the West, conserving water has never been more important. Using our water wisely helps us:
- Ensure long-term water availability and quality
- Reduce strain on our natural ecosystems
- Cut costs for residents and the City
- Preserve rivers and streams for wildlife and recreation
What We're Doing
In partnership with Resource Central, we offer a variety of programs to help residents and businesses save water, protect water quality, and maintain healthy landscapes for a resilient urban ecosystem.
We're also a founding member of Boulder County’s Keep It Clean Partnership (KICP). KICP’s programming focuses on stormwater management training, watershed health monitoring, and community outreach that promotes positive watershed behaviors. Louisville looks forward to co-hosting more rain barrel workshops in the spring.
