Home MenuIndustrial Pretreatment Program
The City of Louisville Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) is designed for domestic wastewater use and not necessarily for commercial or industrial use. The Industrial Pretreatment Program (IPP) controls the discharge of wastewater pollutants from industrial and commercial sources to:
- enrich the health and economic welfare of the community,
- protect the receiving stream (Coal Creek) from pass through of toxic chemicals and heavy metals,
- prevent interference with the City’s Wastewater Treatment Plant treatment process,
- maintain non-interfering, biological treatable influent to create and maintain high quality effluent, reclaimed water and Class "A" biosolids, and
- protect our employees from hazardous substances that could be discharged from an industrial or commercial setting.
Federal and state regulations require the City to operate an U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approved Industrial Pretreatment Program. In 1983, the EPA approved the City’s Industrial Pretreatment Program. The City Municipal Code under Chapter 13.32 Sewer Use Regulation sets forth uniform limits and requirements for direct and indirect contributors to the wastewater collection and treatment system of the City.
