The new Sign Code was adopted on October 15, 2019 and will go into effect November 19, 2019 (30 days following publication of the Ordinance).

Commercial development in the City of Louisville is reviewed in accordance with the Commercial Development Design Standards and Guidelines (CDDSG) and Industrial Development is reviewed in accordance with the Industrial Development Design Standards and Guidelines (IDDSG). The City has recently adopted two small area plans, The South Boulder Road Small Area Plan and the McCaslin Boulevard Small Area Plan, both of which include a directive to prepare design guidelines for each area included in these plans.
The CDDSG and IDDSG were last updated in 2000. The City recognizes that many of these standards and guidelines are outdated and do not reflect the current development trends nor vision for development within the City. The City has contracted with Russell + Mills Studios to facilitate this process. The updated Design Guidelines will focus on maintaining current small town character, architectural integrity and aesthetics, multi-modal connectivity, integrated landscape features, site drainage, parking lot layout and circulation, and will include sustainability measures as determined through the review process and based on sound industry standards.
The new standards will apply to all commercial and industrial development in the City, with the exception of Downtown Louisville and the Mixed-Use Zoned areas, which are regulated under the Design Handbook for Downtown Louisville and the Mixed Use Development Standards and Guidelines, respectively.
