In 1885, German immigrant, J.J. Steinbaugh came to town and shortly after, opened a blacksmith shop that helped Louisville build (literally) into the community it is today. An extremely ambitious and hardworking man, J.J. invoked the wrath of his neighbors on Front Street by pounding horseshoes and other metal work from 4 a.m. until after dark each day.

His hard work and blacksmithing skills paid off, as he expanded the business into general hardware and selling wagons and machinery to local farms and mines. Over the next 70 years, Steinbaugh Hardware grew into a multi-generational family business and staple for Louisville residents in need of hardware, tools, and household goods. The Steinbaugh Pavilion was once the lumber shed for the hardware store. Today, it serves as a cultural hub hosting events such as concerts and street fairs. This summer, make sure to check out local produce (including tomatoes!) at Louisville’s farmer’s market.

Do you have memories of concerts at Steinbaugh Pavilion?
