Our yard waste disposal sites

Starting in April, free compost is available at our branch collection site, on the first weekend of every month. Compost is available until all material is gone. Proof of residency will be checked at the gate by City staff. View compost spec sheet.

Free mulch is located outside the front gate and is available for self-service pickup by residents and non-residents at any time.

City of Louisville Branch Recycle Site

Available to Louisville Residents. Proof of residency will be checked at the gate by City staff.
This site only accepts woody plant material such as tree and shrub debris. Leaves and grass clippings are not accepted.

April - October:

Open the first Saturday of April - October from 8 am - 1 pm.
Mulch give away hosted first Saturday of April and October 8am-1pm during branch drop off.
Mulch pick up is self-serve at gated entrance and is available year round. Staff refresh materials weekly.

November-March:

Open by appointment only. Appointments can be scheduled 7am-3:30pm, Monday- Friday.
Christmas tree recycling will be available on Saturday, January 3 and Saturday, January 17 from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Mulch pick up is self-serve at gated entrance and is available year round. Staff refresh materials weekly.

Directions

From downtown Louisville at the intersection of Main Street and Pine Street, take Pine Street east. It will cross Highway 42 and turn into Empire Road. Remain on Empire Road about 1.3 miles. The recycling site will be on your right just before the Louisville Cemetery.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can use this site? This site is for Louisville residents only. City staff will check proof of residency at the gate.

What can I bring? Tree branches and shrub trimmings only. Leaves and grass clippings are not accepted.

Who is responsible for downed trees and branches on my property? Property owners are responsible for cleaning up downed trees and branches on their private property and in the public right-of-way next to their property, per city code (Ord. No. 1484-2006, § 1, 2-7-2006, Sec. 8.12.060). If you need help, hire a licensed landscape contractor or arborist. Do not move branches to parkways or other public areas.

City of Louisville Leaf Collection Site

Open daily from October 20 through November 23, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dates are approximate.

Available to Louisville Residents.
This site only accepts leaves and grass clippings. No trash, branches, or plastic garbage bags. If you collect your leaves in any type of bags, you must empty the leaves from the bags at the drop off area.

In Louisville, property owners are responsible for downed trees and branches on their private property and within the adjacent public right-of-way, per Ord. No. 1484-2006, § 1, 2-7-2006, Sec. 8.12.060. If needed, property owners should consult with an independent, licensed landscape contractor or arborist to remove trees or tree branches on private property. Republic Services yard waste disposal

Republic Services offers two options for yard waste disposal, for any resident who participates in the city-wide solid waste program:

Curbside compost cart: Compost carts are picked up curbside, every other week. Participants can upgrade to a 96 gallon compost cart at no extra cost. Leaves, grass clippings, and branches can also be added to the compost cart. To upgrade, call Republic’s Louisville Customer Service line on (303) 286-5400 (Monday – Friday 8 am – 5 pm) or complete the website contact form.
Collection events: On scheduled dates in the spring and fall, Republic will collect up to twenty (20) compostable bags and an unlimited number of bundles of shrubbery and tree limbs cut to 4’ length, no more than 18” in diameter, and tied with twine or rope. Compostable bags can be purchased at home improvement retailers.
