The Cultural Services Department is where Louisville's community life comes alive. We oversee the City's public library, historical museum, and arts, culture, and events programming — bringing together three distinct divisions united by a shared commitment to the people of Louisville.
Louisville Public Library
The Louisville Public Library is more than a place to borrow books — it's a community hub where curiosity is welcome, connections are made, and everyone belongs.
Our 32,500-square-foot, two-story facility serves residents of Louisville and the Town of Superior, offering free programs and services for all ages. Storytime, afterschool events, a Teen Volunteer Council, tech help, home delivery, and reading with therapy dogs are just a few examples of what's available. Our collection includes books, digital resources, and the Library of Things — a lending collection of tools, games, technology, and more.
Louisville Historical Museum
Louisville has a story worth knowing — and the Historical Museum is where you can become part of it.
Located steps from Main Street, the Museum invites guests to explore three historic buildings, browse exhibits, and take informal tours. Our collection of photographs, artifacts, and archival materials is featured in exhibits, publications, and community outreach, including school visits.
Arts & Events
From the murals on our walls to the crowds on our streets, the Arts & Events division shapes Louisville's creative and cultural life.
Our programming is guided by the Cultural Arts Master Plan (CAMP), which weaves together the arts, humanities, and community design to strengthen Louisville's quality of life and small-town character. We manage the City's public art collection and regularly engage artists through Calls for Art and Proposals. Our events — Street Faire, Summer Concerts in the Park, Independence Day celebrations, and the region's only Labor Day Parade, drawing more than 5,000 participants — are the shared experiences that make Louisville feel like home.
