Two playground are getting new equipment this fall

Memory Square and Recreation & Senior Center Playgrounds Are Under Construction.

Construction is underway on two new playgrounds, one at the Recreation & Senior Center and the other at Memory Square. Both playgrounds are scheduled to reopen in fall of 2026.

These playgrounds are two of Louisville’s oldest playgrounds, the third being Community Park. All three are about 20 years old.

Since 2018, Louisville has been proactively replacing its oldest playgrounds as part of a multi-year replacement program. Seven playgrounds have already been replaced.

As playground equipment ages, replacement parts can become difficult or impossible to find, making repairs more challenging. We’re replacing these playgrounds proactively, before age-related wear leads to more frequent repairs or unexpected closures, and designing the new playgrounds to meet current safety and accessibility standards.

Community Park is next in line, with replacement currently identified for 2027–28. That timing is still tentative and will depend on future budget adoption.
