Estimated completion: April 2026
Location: Various streets in Louisville
Project status: In progress

Project Overview

The Sanitary Sewer Lining Project involves rehabilitating aging sanitary sewer pipelines using trenchless lining methods, such as cured-in-place pipe (CIPP). This approach installs a durable liner within the existing pipe, restoring structural integrity, improving hydraulic performance, and extending the service life of the sewer system without the need for full pipe replacement.

Sewer lining addresses common issues associated with older infrastructure, including cracks, joint separation, root intrusion, and infiltration and inflow (I/I). By sealing defects from within the pipe, the project reduces the risk of sanitary sewer overflows, improves system reliability, and helps protect public health and the environment.

This trenchless rehabilitation method also provides significant cost savings compared to traditional open-cut pipe replacement. Sewer lining minimizes excavation, surface restoration, and traffic control requirements, resulting in lower construction costs and reduced disruption to residents, businesses, and roadways. Additionally, faster construction timelines and extended pipe lifespan make lining a cost-effective, long-term asset management strategy for the City.

Overall, the Sanitary Sewer Lining Project is a proactive investment that preserves existing infrastructure, reduces lifecycle costs, and supports the City’s goal of maintaining a safe, reliable, and fiscally responsible wastewater system.
