Report a wildlife issue

Knowing who to contact can help protect you, pets, and local wildlife. Do not attempt to handle wildlife in distress. Healthy wildlife that is not injured, sick, trapped, or creating an immediate threat does not need to be reported. Call 911 if an animal poses an immediate threat.

Sick, injured, or deceased wildlife on private property

City of Louisville Open Space rangers generally do not respond to wildlife on private property. Visit Greenwood Wildlife Rehabilitation Center or call (303) 823-8455 for advice about whether the animal needs help and what to do next. Be prepared to transfer the animal to Greenwood yourself.

If you find a dead animal on your property, and the animal does not show signs of a serious or unusual disease, you may place it in your household trash when it can be done safely. Use gloves or another protective barrier, avoid direct contact, wear a N95 mask, securely bag the animal, and wash your hands afterward.

Sick, injured, or deceased wildlife on public land

Be prepared to provide the animal’s exact location, species or description, and condition.

  • Contact Boulder County Non-Emergency Dispatch at (303) 441-4444.
  • Contact Open Space rangers at (303) 335-4770 or by email.
