Steinbaugh Pavilion

Steinbaugh Pavilion is an outdoor venue in Downtown Louisville. It is home to some of our favorite community events, like summer Street Faire concerts, the Louisville Farmer's Market, and Old Town Skate (outdoor ice skating, once called WinterSkate). You can also rent the Pavilion for your own special event or private party.

Rent the pavilion

You can rent the Steinbaugh Pavilion from April through September each year. Reservations open in February.

Check availability and request a reservation

When reservations open, you can view open dates and send your request online.

How to reserve

  1. Fill out every section of the online reservation form.
  2. After we receive your form, City staff will contact you about payment and any permits you need.
  3. Your reservation is not confirmed until we receive and process your payment.

City Hall will keep your credit card on file for the damage deposit (a hold in case the venue is damaged).

When to reserve

Please plan ahead so there is time to set up permits and any special arrangements before your event.

  • Events that need a permit (large events, events with alcohol, and similar): reserve at least 90 days ahead.
  • All other events: reserve at least 30 days ahead.

Rental fees

Rental fees cover every hour you use the space. This includes setup and teardown time.

Who is renting or attending Rate
Under 100 people $255 for the first 4 hours, then $60 for each extra hour
Over 100 people $340 for the first 4 hours, then $90 for each extra hour
Registered nonprofits and educational organizations $50 per hour (2-hour minimum), then $50 for each extra hour

Nonprofits and educational organizations may be asked to show proof of status. You can use your EIN (Employer Identification Number, a tax ID for organizations) or your Secretary of State listing.

Using the north parking lot

Will your guests, caterers, or crew use the north parking lot next to the Pavilion for setup, staging, or any other part of your event? If so, you must list this on your rental application. Extra fees and insurance apply.

  • Fee: $50
  • Insurance: You must have TULIP insurance. TULIP stands for Tenant Users Liability Insurance Programs. It is a short-term policy that protects you while you rent the space.

You can buy TULIP from any company you choose. The policy must meet these requirements:

  • It must cover $1,000,000 against all claims, demands, and other obligations, and $2,000,000 in aggregate (the most the policy will pay in total).
  • It must list the City of Louisville, its officers, and its employees as additional insured (people also covered by your policy).
  • You must email or deliver the Certificate of Insurance (COI), a document that proves you have the insurance, to the Deputy City Clerk at least two business days before your event.

During summer, a large white tent covers the north parking lot. The Street Faire team sets the dates when the tent goes up and comes down.

What the Pavilion includes

Steinbaugh Pavilion includes:

  • A 34' x 17' stage
  • A backstage area
  • A covered seating area with picnic tables you can move
  • Overhead lights above the stage and the covered seating

What is not included

Your rental does not include:

  • Event or venue management
  • Stage lights and speakers
  • IT support
  • Equipment or furniture (we cannot promise any will be available)
  • The retractable fabric awnings on the south side of the Pavilion, which are not available for private rentals

You rent the facility and equipment in its current condition. Internet speeds are limited, so please plan another option if you want to stream or broadcast your event.

Permits You May Need

Some events need extra permits. Live music is allowed without a permit until 9:30 PM.

You must provide extra portable restrooms. The City does not have a preferred vendor list. An online search for "portlet" or "porta potty" will bring up several options.

You must have a Special Event Permit from the City of Louisville.

You will need extra permits if your event includes:

  • Alcohol
  • Caterers who use a grill, propane, or a generator
  • Street closures
