Plan your visit

Welcome! Whether you are here for a full tour or just stopping in before a downtown lunch, we have you covered. Our tours, programs, and events are always free, and we proudly partner with Museums for All to keep history accessible to everyone.

Admission

Admission is always free. Donations are welcome.

Please call ahead with questions about physical access or accommodations such as ASL interpretation or support for blindness, low vision, sensory needs, and developmental disabilities. (ASL is American Sign Language.)

A sensory kit is available on request. It includes sound-dampening headphones, fidget tools, a textured seat, and a weighted lap pad.

You can also download a Social Story PDF to prepare for your visit. A Social Story is a written and visual guide that helps families of children with autism or sensory differences, first-time visitors, and anyone who likes to plan ahead.

All three buildings and the courtyard have entrance ramps but are not otherwise ADA accessible.

Please call to make an appointment if you need research help, have items to donate, or want a tour outside open hours. This lets us prepare ahead. Contact the Museum team at Museum@LouisvilleCO.gov or 303-335-4850.

We offer in-person tours for groups of 6 or more.

Please schedule at least two weeks in advance so we can plan for your group and staff. We welcome school groups, scouts, senior centers, and groups with special needs. Tours run Tuesday through Saturday.

The Museum does not serve food on site, but many restaurants are within a few blocks.

  • Please do not eat or drink inside the buildings. This protects our historic artifacts and small spaces.
  • Water in closed containers is allowed inside.
  • Enjoy snacks and drinks outdoors in the Museum Courtyard. Trash bins are across the street and behind the Museum in the parking lot.

Please do not bring pets into the historic buildings. Service dogs are always welcome.

  • Photos taken during Museum activities may appear in our materials. Tell staff if you do not want your image used.
  • You may take personal photos, but please do not photograph the historic photos on exhibit. Exterior photos are free for everyone.
  • To film on the campus or inside a building, contact the Museum team for permission and supervision rules.

Visitors of all ages are welcome. Please call ahead with questions about activities or accommodations for your child. For a playgroup or preschool visit, contact the Museum team or fill out a Special Tour form.

  • Strollers and wheelchairs: The campus has ramps, but the historic doorways are narrow and may not fit all electric wheelchairs or double strollers. Park strollers outdoors by the back door of the Jacoe Store.
  • Nursing: You are welcome to bottle-feed or breastfeed here. We have no dedicated nursing room but will do our best to give you privacy.
  • Restroom: One gender-neutral restroom is in the Jacoe Store. It is not ADA accessible and has no changing table. (ADA is the Americans with Disabilities Act, a law that sets accessibility standards.)
